Accountant

Papantoniou & Papantoniou LLC, a leading Nicosia-based law firm, is inviting applications from experienced accounting professionals seeking to develop their career within a professional legal and corporate services environment.

Established in 1987, the firm advises domestic and international clients across a broad spectrum of contentious, advisory, corporate and commercial matters.

The successful candidate will join the firm's Accounting Department and work closely with the firm's management, with responsibility for the day-to-day accounting requirements of the firm and its clients.

The Role

We are seeking an organised, dependable and detail-oriented Accountant with relevant professional experience and the ability to manage accounting, tax, VAT and payroll-related responsibilities efficiently and accurately.

The role requires a high degree of responsibility, confidentiality and organisational ability, together with the capacity to manage multiple deadlines and maintain accurate financial records.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the day-to-day accounting operations of the firm and its clients.

  • Preparing and maintaining companies' accounting books and records.

  • Liaising and coordinating with external auditors in relation to annual audits and financial information.

  • Handling registrations and cancellations of companies with the Cyprus Tax Department and VAT Department, including through the relevant government portals.

  • Preparing and submitting VAT, VIES, IR7 and IR1 returns and declarations, including through TFA and TAXISnet.

  • Performing bank reconciliations and maintaining accurate financial records.

  • Preparing and submitting HE32 Annual Returns to the Cyprus Registrar of Companies.

  • Managing payroll-related matters and social insurance payments, including through SISnet.

  • Handling relevant employment-related submissions and procedures through the ERGANI system.

  • Monitoring accounting, tax, payroll and statutory deadlines and ensuring that required submissions are completed in a timely manner.

  • Supporting the firm's management with other accounting and financial administration matters as required.

The position is particularly suited to an accounting professional who is comfortable working independently, managing multiple responsibilities and maintaining a high standard of accuracy and confidentiality.

Candidate Profile

We are seeking candidates who demonstrate:

  • A university degree in Accounting, Finance or another relevant field, or an LCCI Higher qualification.

  • At least three years of relevant professional experience.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and day-to-day bookkeeping procedures.

  • Very good knowledge of Greek and English, written and oral.

  • Good computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.

  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently where required.

  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Integrity, responsibility, reliability and discretion in handling confidential financial and client information.

The following will be regarded as additional advantages:

  • ACCA qualification or progress towards ACCA certification.

  • Previous experience in a similar accounting position.

  • Knowledge of e-Soft accounting software.

  • Knowledge of the Premier Payroll system.

  • Experience with Cyprus tax, VAT, payroll and statutory filing procedures.
